Good Summer Reading
Good Summer Reading
Since a couple of these are written by folk architects, don’t get the idea that I believe it is a good idea all the time. Everything in moderation.
If you have heard or read any of Michael Pollan’s books you should try an early one titled A Place of My Own. It is a wonderful tale of his journey to construct a place, a sort of folk architecture, in which he would write the other books, In Defense of Food et. al.
Another folk architect and writer, Richard Manning, wrote a facinating story in A Good House about his trials of designing and building his own home.
Finally, a must read is Home A Short History of an Idea by the architect Witold Rybczynski.
