Apologies to the Elephant
Apologies to the Elephant
Large, somewhat unruly, often overwhelming animals make for an easy target. So I’ll use the metonym again and repeat what a good friend of mine used to say when we were hard at work trying to finish a project. Donald said, “You can’t eat the whole elephant in one bite.”
So we would break the project [elephant] into pieces and work [eat] it one piece [toe] at a time. Your house project is exactly the same. It is big, even when it’s small. And it is complicated, especially if it is supposed to be simple. There are a lot of parts and trades to coordinate. Take the parts in pieces and only work on resolving one thing at a time.
